How do I know if my teenager is ready for Teen Travel?

September 17, 2019

13 to 16 and everything in-between!

L&E Teen Travel is for 13 to 16 year olds.  However, we all know that there are many different types of 13 to 16 year olds!  This is a trip that we think every teen should experience but we want to make sure they are equipped with all the skills they need to set off on their own (not completely on their own!).  If you child has previously attended camps then this is a good start.  They have spent time away from you being independent and making their own decisions.  As they get older teenagers will naturally want more independence.  This is a great first step to travelling without their parents but in the care of experts.  Lets be honest, no one knows your child better than you… so if you need advice or want to talk to one of our experts then give us a call.

Speaking the language

The common language that will be spoken is English so will your teenager be able to communicate effectively in the group?  We try to limit each nationality to ensure we are all speaking English.  Therefore your child may not be with someone who speaks their language.  If your teenager is a confident English speaker then there is nothing to worry about.  However, if your teenager is confident but doesn’t have a good grasp of English they will certainly come back to you with new found English skills!

What type of skills will they need?

Teen Travel is about learning new things such as budget management and how to organise an itinerary.  Each member will bring their own individual skills that will help the group.  One of the most important things the teens will have to figure out early on in the trip is what they each bring to the table.  Is there an A+ maths student in the group – they can take the lead with the expenses, does someone enjoy writing – they can assist others in writing the daily blog.  No matter what skills each teenager has, they will all have to work together as a group.  Each person’s skillset to make sure they get the most out of the trip.

What happens if my teen gets upset or homesick?

This trip could potentially be the most exciting and challenging thing your teen has ever done.  Our Travel Mentors are fully aware of this.  They will be monitoring each child throughout the trip to ensure they are happy and getting the most out of the trip.  If any teen is upset for whatever reason the Travel Mentors are there to listen and to help them.  We can safely say that 9 times out of 10 it is simply tiredness that makes someone upset.  This is easily fixed by a good nights sleep or an additional rest day.  The Travel Mentors will manage the itinerary.  If it looks like the teens are travelling too often (changing locations every day) then they will step in.  Before anything is booked and offer some sound advice.

We can offer advice to you and your teen.  So please get in touch with us if you have any questions about Teen Travel.  We can even set up a Skype or a FaceTime with a Travel Mentor who can talk you through the trip.  Teen Travel really is an adventure of a lifetime – take the first step, get in touch!

Meet the Teen Traveller: Silvia from Italy

April 25, 2018

This month on “Meet the Teen Traveller” we have the lovely Silvia.  Not only was she part of our 2017 Teen Travel (TT) programme she has attended many of our L&E Summer Camps and this year has been working as an L&E Ambassador.

What is your name, how old are you and where do you live?

I’m Silvia, I’m sixteen years old and I’m from Milan in Italy.

Whist on the TT tour what was your favourite moment?

My favourite moments during TT was when we set up the plan for the following day and when we randomly walked around with no destination feeling carefree.

What is the best way to travel i.e plane, train, car, bike??

For me the best way to travel is by train because is it the easiest and most independent way to travel – and you get a good view!

Out of all the places you visited on TT where would you like to visit again and why?

I would like to visit again Edinburgh because I can’t forget the vivacity of that city. There are a lot of things to visit and to do, and camping at the festival was an unforgettable experience!

Did TT teach you anything?

Teen travel taught me how to plan a trip alone and how important is live on a budget. During TT I met new people and I learned how to get on well with them despite us having different opinions.

Many thanks to Silvia for her insight into the amazing Teen Travel experience.  There are still places on our 2018 trips and this year they will be bigger and better than ever!  Want to experience something different this summer???  Call or email us to find out more: +44 (0)1756 521000 / info@learnexperience.co.uk – we’d love to hear from you.
